Engineering Hope's founder and director has spent more than 35 years as an engineering consultant with most of those years leading architectural/engineering (A/E) teams in a variety of project types, from feasibility studies and building conditions assessments to multi-million dollar renovations and new buildings. From his earliest memories, Bill has always been fascinated with architecture and was curious how structures were built. Whether castles or cathedrals dating back hundreds of years, or new edifices using techniques offering sustainable design, he has a passion to be part of an industry that allows people to work together to create and construct functional yet unique structures that enhance the lives of those occupying the buildings.
Bill is a professional engineer with experience as a designer, engineer, manager, principal and owner. His designs have included research laboratories for some of the largest and most prestigious universities and institutions in the country, cleanrooms for pharmaceutical and aerospace companies, central heating and cooling plants, and several other project types like auditoriums, museums, homeless shelters and places of worship. One of his unique projects was to assist the State of Maryland in determining the fair market value of a central steam plant that was being purchased by eminent domain to allow Oriole Park at Camden Yards to be built in its current location.
Outside of his vocational work, he has served in charitable causes including two years as a missionary with YWAM Jamaica, leader and participant for short-term mission outreaches to Europe, South America, the Caribbean and locations in the US. He has served on boards and in leadership capacities with his church, a Christian K-8th school (Shrewsbury Academy), a ministry with an international outreach (Sharing Real Hope), a foundation using soccer to provide opportunities for inner city youth and coaches (The Player Project) and community organizations.
Every design has its unique requirements and challenges, and Bill finds joy and purpose in partnering with architects and other design professionals to see the 'Owner's' vision come to fruition. Using his passion, skills and experience in the construction industry has allowed him to serve others. Regardless of the project, he considers his 'work' an opportunity to serve people and the Kingdom of God.
For fun, Bill enjoys soccer, skiing, hiking and spending time with his wife of more than 40 years, his children, Danielle and Micah, son-in-law Robie, grandchildren Brayden, Adelaide, and Arlo, and dog Starbucks (Bux).
